Ever wanted to work as a Jackeroo in the Australian Outback? Here’s your opportunity, Oyster offers a comprehensive package providing you with the skills to be successful within one of their many guaranteed work placements.

You will live and work in the great Australian Outback for 3-12 months in jobs such as agriculture, hospitality and teaching. The wage you earn will ensure you can afford to extend your stay and explore this travellers Mecca.

Why Should I do this and is there a catch?

Because you can! You will probably never get the chance to do anything like this again and you will rightly be proud of having lived and worked and been part of the great Australian Outback.

It’s a 12 month flexible programme that allows you to depart when you want to and work for say 3-6 months, travel and then come back to another guaranteed job if you want one.

The only catch is that you need to be up for some hard work in challenging locations, but the rewards are immense. You’ll get the true Oz experience in the Outback, with its incredible space and enormous star lit skies. Communities are small and you’ll get to know everyone fast, sitting out in the evenings with cans of beer. Your social life will be centred on the workplace and your colleagues. Your earnings will come in very handy for travel or simply financing your trip.

The induction and training will give you the confidence and knowledge you need to make a good impression on your employers and to get the best out of this experience. You join a group of like-minded people. All participants get an introduction to Outback farming life regardless of which job you are planning to go to. You will have chance to muster cattle, drive a tractor, ride a motorbike, change a tyre and much more. If you have opted for a hospitality or teaching job you will receive an introduction to these too.

Where in Australia?

You will fly into Brisbane and after a night in the city you will head over to Rainbow beach for 3 days relaxing and recuperating from the jet lag. Then the fun begins, your training course and later your job will be based in rural and Outback Australia. Most jobs are in Queensland, but you might choose to work elsewhere inAustralia.

What do I get for my money?

To participate in the programme there is a charge of £1285, this includes:

  • Guaranteed paid work – around £700 per month
  • Food and Accommodation during your work placements
  • Full meet and greet at Brisbane Airport
  • Paperwork sorted including opening a bank account, applying for a Tax File number and Medicare registration
  • Visa advice before departure
  • 9 day orientation, jet lag recovery on the beach and introductory training
  • UK Interview and Briefing, support throughout
  • Oyster can book or give flight advice
  • Full financial protection through our ATOL if we book your flight

£1285 for 3 to 12 months in a guaranteed job with free food and accommodation earning around £700 per month. Includes a 9 day well regarded job training course. Budget extra for flights to Brisbane (about £900 fromUK) that Oyster can book for you.

To be eligible, you need a Working Holiday Visa (currently £100) that is available to passport holders from over 20 nationalities who are 18-30. You also need to be able to speak English and be capable of working hard in a rural environment.
